Decisions. Decisions.

1. Which internet service provider to use? SWIFT or STARCOMMS
2. Which phone provider to use?
3. Where is the best place in Lekki to buy diesel to stockpile?
4. Which security outfit is the best? ( I would prefer the ones that sleep during the day not through the night)
5. Where does one buy DSTV? ( I need to watch Chelsea win the Premier League. Again.)
6. Is there a place where you can hire a car ( and driver)? and I don't mean by the hour.
7. Best place to buy electronics (TV, stereo etc)?

That's it for now but I am sure there will be more.

1. No idea for lekki. Had a quote from Swift which involved installing a giant mast in our compound, so they went to the bottom of the pile. If MyNetcom is in your area I do recommend them.
2-4: No recommendations, been disappointed by so many.
5. from Multi choice? or email me (address on my profile page) for a guy I recommend.
6. In my experience let people know you're looking for one and there'll be a queue fairly soon.
7. Browse at the big shops. Buy at the Market (I can recommend someone for this too.)

Great minds think alike I have just been lying awake wondering how we could stock pile diesel for the gen.And wondering were we could put it.

1. Starcomms- they r truly wireless, not crappy netcomm, where you have to move the shitty router& cable around praying for a half a bar!

2.Get a floating tank( can store up to 1000 litres- which goes v qucikly) so quickly we have had to buy a 'drum'-210 litres and four 50 litres 'kegs' as well. We used up the entire lot in 4 days of no NEPA & still let the poor gen rest 2 hrs a day. MIKANO, JMG & other gen stockists sell them

3. Multichoice in VI- they have recommended installation technicans

4. Use an agency!DSS on MuriOkunola. They get references etc, so WHEN they steal.....

5.Bring lots of cheese and as much fresh fruit & yoghurt you can carry. Trust me!

Good luck!!

Me again! We have Halogen, but they sleep during the day AND at night........ I asked if they had guns-blank look. If they had a way of contacting thier headoffice, Blanker look. What would happen if there was an emergency since they never have any 'credit' on their phone...Just pray to God was the answer.......

1-MyNetCom or Multilinks. Downtime on Starcomms was too bad as at this time last year...
2-Again, Multilinks.
3-Mobil as you're leaving VI.
4-No ideas, God's the ultimate security man...:D
5-Call 08023367597, he'd know how to hook you up. (By the way, God forbid bad thing about ¢h€£$k¥ winning the league).
6-Err, you could send me some of that spare cash. My account details are...
7-Otigba (no warrantly), Palms or Sharp Centre (lots of warranty and after sales services).

All the best.

1.STARCOMMS is ur best bet, or u could get Netcom
2. cell phone?? i dont know they r all crap really but i guess maybe Celtel, and have a glo pre paid sim card as well just for emergencies, also u might want to but a starcoms line too.
3. Mobil. i think, or you could get a company to deliver to urs every week or however often u want, if u want a contact i could give u one.
4. Which security outfit is the best? halogen?? but trust me they all sleep.
5. Where does one buy DSTV? best bet is to go to the multi choice office in VI, they would recommend a technician for you, but eerr u do know that DSTV wont be showing d premiership live from next season right?? think they lost the rights to HITV or something like that.
6. Is there a place where you can hire a car ( and driver)? hertz car rentals. or theres another company i forget thier name now.
7. Best place to buy electronics (TV, stereo etc)? if u can get it in the uk and ship it over might be cheaper for you!! but if u cant Plams is a rip off, try Tino electronics on raymond njoku in Ikoyi, also LG on awolowo road, or i can give u someones number who sells plasmsa (with warranty) i think he represents a certain brand in Nigeria, cant remember now. (but its cheaper than palms sha)

On 7
If you can, take your electrical stuff from here, I presume you will be freighting a whole load of stuff (which your employer is paying for) anything you leave will be obsolete by the time you get back (and since you aren't coming back), and good quality stuff in Lagos is very very expensive, also buy UPS's for everything.

On 3
I second Mobil , but as big Oga that isn’t your job, that’s why you, Madam and the kids all have drivers

Oh and on 5, I think that by 2015 NTA will be broadcasting the Premiership, so save yourself some money.

1. Don't know about Starcomms but Swift sucks

6. There's a car service (I think they do monthly plans) called "call a car" or something but I'm not in the country now so I don't have their number on me, I'll send it when I get back over the weekend.

Mandy, you guys will have to get a tank for the diesel, it makes it tidier than having drums, and whenever they deliver, you HAVE to be present and measure otherwise you'll be cheated like crazy.

Good luck.

i guess you have almost all the answers you need to help you make an informed decision. i think Starcomms is better and they have this really cool EVDO card you can carry around.
Multichoice is at Tiamiyu Savage in VI. They have technicians yes but beware of the touts that hang outside their office.
Electronics i have no idea. A TV is a TV to me but i find most ppl ship it down i guess cos its cheaper.
Diesel once you get the tank up then u call some guy who delivery to the house. All the best. Welcome to Lagos.

For internet try COBRANET based in Lekki phase 1, they offer broadband and I have found it useful at home (24/7).

Try ZENON diesel they deliver every day to any part of Lagos. They are also cheaper than most. You need to be present or someone trusted presented to ensure that they deliver the amount requested.

I would recommend Mega Plaza begcause if it packs in or faulty they will fix it without any palava which is not what I can say about the rest. Everybody just wants to sell the damn products and not care too much about the after sales. Will not slag off the Palms go there for shopping very TESCO/ASDA/ Sainsbury like.

My mum and her family have used the same car hire guy since 1992/3. I have continued. He is slightly wealthy then I remember him as a kid, but he is reliable his number is 0802 333 8681 Oroki is his name.

Nice to know you guys are coming back. Enjoy your stay and take everything with a pinch of salt. You will be cheated, cheated and pissed off.

Am late already. But yea everyone's said it all. Dont worry and am sure u've gotten ur electronics already. I would have The Sony Centre is ok in v.i. There r also rescue agencies you can sign up with. You'll enjoy Lagos espcially as you are on the right side of the bridge (if u see what i mean.) Gud luck......

Any updates on how its been so far?
